All student renters should be treated fairly and equally. We provide solidarity and resources to help you understand your rights as a tenant and help you stand up when things go wrong. We campaign on our members' behalf on the basis of tenant solidarity to combat unscrupulous landlords, agencies and hall operators.
Renters face inherent suspicion when they take part in a tenancy agreement, which they are of course an equal partner in! Join us to help flatten the inequality and inherent suspicion of student renters.
35% of renters have lost some or all of their deposit and almost 6 out of 10 renters didn't bother disputing deductions because they didn't feel the system would make a difference or didn't have enough information. We aim to ensure that everyone knows who is entitled to that deposit money - the renter!
We know that isn't how the saying goes but there is an incredibly small pool of high quality accommodation in Dundee that is reasonably priced. This bottleneck allows for prices to be driven up well above average rates - from halls to private flats. We hope to work to ensure that there is sufficient high quality, low cost accommodation for all student renters.
You only have to look at the reviews of many unscrupulous rental agencies online to see that there is a huge issue with agencies being easily & freely contactable. From repairs to deposits, dealing with mould or moving out - it seems that everyone has a horror story. It's time to set this right.
We believe in fair treatment for all. Through campaigning on individual cases, we hope to ensure that all renters have fair treatment from their landlords, agencies or hall operators. COVID-19 has made it difficult for many students to lay out future plans - this shouldn't be to their financial detriment.
As a union, we take on individual cases and campaign on behalf of those who face unfair or unreasonable treatment from unscrupulous landlords, agencies and hall operators. We use open letters, demonstrations, boycotts, rent strikes, rent negotiations, third party help and other peaceful methods to ensure that our members' rights are being upheld.
Get in touch today if you have a renting horror story, are in the middle of an ordeal or want to help campaign for renter equality.
